A small family town with a tight-knit, community in the center of Marin County, San Anselmo is a favored destination for cycling enthusiasts and hikers. The scenic Mount Tamalpais, year-round pleasant climate, and many hiking and biking trails attracts outdoor enthusiasts to its parks.

San Anselmo has a charming downtown area where picturesque streets are lined with charming coffee shops, restaurants, and boutiques. The architecture reflects the town’s history, and many of the older buildings are well-preserved and restored.

Originally inhabited by the Coast Miwok. The town was at the junction of three Mexican land grants in the 1840s. The town’s name was officially adopted in 1875 in honor of Saint Anselm of Canterbury. Residents lived a quiet life until the arrival of the North Pacific Coast Railroad in 1903 made it accessible to travelers.

San Anselmo grew steadily through the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, becoming a popular destination for tourists and summer vacationers from San Francisco.
