Considered the Heart of the San Ramon Valley, Danville was initially populated by Native Americans. It subsequently became part of the grazing land around Mission San Jose. As immigrants moved in, they turned the lands over to wheat. Later fruit and nuts replaced the wheat as the Southern Pacific Railway extended its railroad into the area.

Danville remained an agricultural area until 1947 when the first suburb came into existence. It was incorporated in 1982.

Today Danville is an upmarket residential area with 167 acres of parkland. It boasts several award-winning restaurants and an historic downtown area filled with charm and nostalgia. For the last four years, Danville has been the safest town in California.
